The Humor of Jesus of Nazareth

"The puzzle for God's sense of humor might go like this: Could God tell a joke so funny that even he would laugh? The answer is "yes" because there is no limit to how funny God can be, and "no" because God would already know the punch line. I offer this mind-teaser half in jest and half in earnest. To recognize that Jesus laughed may require rethinking traditional ideas about deity."

Well, yeah. Knowing the punchline to your jokes doesn't make them less funny! Although with time's arrow we can surprise ourselves as we assemble our humor. But even a timeless deity could perfectly perceive -- and surely, appreciate -- the patterns that define comedy. (Some might say that being a wit requires a degree of omniscience!)

Researcher identifies just 8 patterns as the cause of all humor

useful quote: "Note that while the general intention of satire is to reduce the status of or emotionally deflate the subject being satirized, patterns of scale are not significantly more common in it than in any other form of humour (with the obvious exception of the literary work Gulliver’s Travels). The reduction in status is a result of the humour and its associated commentary, not for the most part its cause."

How Boxxy brought the web to its knees | Technology | guardian.co.uk

"So when our future digital archaeologists start looking back at our actions, they'll come across Boxxy and look confused. How on earth do you relate that story in a way that makes sense in 100 years, given that it makes basically no sense right now? That's partly what I love about the internet - and partly what makes my brain hurt."
